It was 2 a.m. and Jordin Sparks couldn’t believe it was about to end.
“It is still hard for me to comprehend,” American Idol‘s sixth season winner wrote on her MySpace page just hours before the final show of the Idol tour. “I still find it weird that I am in the same ring with Kelly, Carrie, Fantasia, Ruben and Taylor. SO weird. Who would have thought?! But I did it.”
Early Sunday morning, Sparks used her blog to issue a heartfelt farewell to fellow Idols, friends and fans as the 59-show American Idols Live! Tour 2007 was about to come to an end later that day in Manchester, N.H.
“When I got myself into this, I never expected to get out of it what I did,” she writes. “I did the competition, made friends for life, found out that I was stronger than I thought I was, and finished the season on top.”
Sparks describes her Idol tour-mates as “these precious people, who I have grown to love, from different states, walks of life.”
“These people have become family to me, and I love them, and I’m sure as heck gonna miss them,” she writes. “But I’ll be okay….we’ll all be okay.”
The New York-born Sparks, at just 17, she became the youngest ever to win the competition. A fan favorite throughout the final weeks, the tall and curvaceous singer maintained a sense of style and composure onstage even when faced with budding rumors of a romance between her and Idol runner-up, Blake Lewis.
“One other thing before I head off to sleep,” Sparks says in finishing her post, “I just wanted to tell all of you how life changing seeing all of you has been. Meeting people ranging from 4 to 50+, and them telling me that they look up to me…makes me so happy.
“I actually feel like crying,” she continues. “Hearing people say that my music makes them feel better or makes them happy, words can’t even express how much that means to me. Getting to see all of you, you who put me here, and saying thank you, has been a huge blessing to me.
“So, thank you for voting your fingers off. For Letting your kids stay up a little late to watch the show. For coming to the concerts and showing us your love. You all support me so much and Ill never forget it. I love you guys.”
